About
In 2019, the Vanderburgh County SWCD launched efforts to protect and improve the Lower Pigeon Creek Watershed. The Lower Pigeon Creek Watershed drains 107 square miles of Vanderburgh, Warrick and Gibson counties. The watershed drains Elberfield, McCutchanville and portions of Evansville. The Lower Pigeon Creek Watershed includes Pigeon Creek downstream of I-69 as well as Little Pigeon Creek, Bluegrass Creek, Locust Creek and other tributarires.
What is a watershed?
The Lower Pigeon Creek Watershed Project focuses on protecting and improving water quality in the Lower Pigeon Creek Watershed. All of the land from which water drains into a singular waterbody forms a watershed. These drainage boundaries are determined by land elevation rather than state or county lines, political boundaries, or residential property lines. View the Lower Pigeon Creek Watershed.
